“Real world” journalism for students

On February 27,2012 the journalism class visited the FOX 61 News Station in Hartford, Connecticut. During the visit students toured the station and learned about the history of the Hartford Courant newspaper. The hour and a half tour helped give the students a feel of what working in the television or print media would be like in the real world.
“My favorite part of the tour was learning about the printing presses and history of the newspaper industry,” said Shannon O’Connor, NFA senior. Shannon is attending Emerson College in the Fall to major in print journalism.
Various Fox employees spoke to the students about the good and the bad of the industry. It gave them a real world view of the media business.
“I learned a lot about the communication field, seeing what the real world is like is very inspiring and directs you on the right track,” said Jared Ensling, NFA senior. Jared is attend the University of New Haven in the Fall to major in broadcast communications.
